Protect Our Communities:

The Stringtown scour hole in Monroe County is in need of immediate attention.  If repairs are not made, a high water event will cause further damage and will eventually lead to a breach in the levee along the Mississippi River. Local officials warn it’s not a matter of if, but when.

When the levee fails, 45,000 acres of farmland and multiple towns will flood, hundreds of homes will be lost, and historic landmarks like Fort de Chartres could be destroyed. Preventative repairs are estimated between $3 – $5 million, while post-breach costs could reach $300 million.

We call on Governor Pritzker, FEMA, the Illinois Emergency Management Agency, and other relevant agencies to immediately fund and complete repairs to prevent this pending disaster.
