Time to end dangerous sanctuary policies

On March 19th, Sheridan Gorman was killed by an illegal immigrant. This tragedy was entirely preventable. Unfortunately, the governor continues to prioritize illegal immigrants over the citizens of Illinois. He actively invites illegal immigrants to the state. In fact, when asked about the situation, the governor stated, “I am going to do everything that I can to protect our undocumented immigrants. They are residents of our state.”

President Trump and ICE, under Operation Midway Blitz, attempted to remove illegal immigrants from Illinois and Chicago. The governor’s response was, “If you come for my people, you come through me.”

Now, after this senseless loss of life, the governor tries to shift the blame to President Trump and the federal government. When asked about the murder of Sheridan Gorman, he said, “This has been a terrible tragedy, and I know that the Gorman family has suffered mightily… There have been real failures. Those failures, of course, extend beyond Illinois’s borders. That’s a national failure, a failure to have comprehensive immigration reform, a failure of the president to follow his own edict to go after the worst of the worst.”

Well, Governor, this illegal immigrant is “the worst of the worst,” and you invited him to Illinois. Time and time again, he shows he may be the most tone-deaf and hypocritical governor of all time.

It’s time to end these dangerous sanctuary policies. This includes repealing the SAFE-T Act, the TRUST Act, and terminating Illinois’ sanctuary state status.
