SPRINGFIELD…State Representative David Friess (R-Red Bud) recently passed his first piece of legislation out of the House of Representatives. The legislation allows the Kaskaskia Regional Port District to apply for and accept grants, loans, or appropriations from both the federal and State government. Rep. Friess issued this statement:
“As the representative of a district that includes two major waterways, it is vital that special districts, including ports, be able to take advantage of the financial assistance offered by both state and federal governments. The Kaskaskia Regional Port District, located within my district, is an important entity for commerce and economic development. This legislation will benefit many areas in Illinois and I am proud that it received bipartisan support.”
HB 1755 will be carried in the upper chamber by State Sen. Terri Bryant (R-Murphysboro) who said the following: “The Kaskaskia Regional Port District is such an important hub of transportation for the nation, so I am pleased to partner with Representative Friess to move this proposal in the Senate. Allowing the Kaskaskia Regional Port District and other special districts to apply for both state and federal grants will help keep the economy strong here in the region and throughout Illinois.”
Rep. Friess added, “I want to thank my colleagues on both sides of the aisle for supporting this legislation and I want to further thank Sen. Bryant for carrying this bill in the Senate.
