Rep. Friess Comments on Governor’s State of the State and Budget Address

Red Bud, IL… Rep. Friess gave the following statement after the conclusion of Governor Pritzker’s combined State of the State and Budget Address today in Springfield.

“If Democrats continue down this path, Illinois’ financial crisis will only get worse,” Rep. Friess said. “We’ve already lost too many residents and businesses to states with lower taxes and smarter policies. Taxpayers deserve a government that budgets responsibly, not one that spends first and scrambles for answers later. House Republicans have warned for years that reckless spending would lead us here, yet Democrats ignored every warning. Now, we’re staring at a multi-billion-dollar shortfall, and if we don’t change course, that deficit will balloon even further. The Governor’s budget proposal includes $590 million in new taxes and aggressive revenue assumptions, which only add to the uncertainty.

Unfortunately, based on the Governor’s closing remarks, it is evident the Governor suffers from Trump Derangement as evidenced by the Governor’s insistence to call Republicans and Trump’s supporters Nazis.  President Trump campaigned on very specific issues, which included closing the southern border and deporting illegal immigrants.  President Trump received the popular vote and is now delivering on these campaign promises.  The Governor, in response, doubles down on Illinois’ sanctuary state policy.  The residents of Illinois have had enough. We need to end sanctuary state policies that are draining our resources, implement zero-based budgeting, and make every dollar count. Illinois families can’t afford higher taxes, and House Republicans won’t stand by while they’re forced to foot the bill for failed leadership. We’re demanding real reforms, real accountability, and a budget process that works for the people.”

Rep. Friess proudly serves the people of the 115th District.
