Bryant, Friess Team Up with Merdian and Chester Area Christian Food Pantry for Turkey Giveaway

Chester, IL – More than 138 families in need from Randolph County received a free turkey for the upcoming holidays, thanks to State Senator Terri Bryant (R-Murphysboro) and State Representative David Friess (R-Red Bud) partnering with Meridian Health Plan of Illinois and Chester Area Christian Food Pantry.

“Being able to give back and help bring a little extra joy to local families is truly what this season is all about,” said Senator Bryant. “This turkey giveaway was a wonderful reminder of the difference we all can make when we come together to help those in need.”

“Coming together to serve over 130 families this holiday season was a powerful reminder of the strength and generosity of our community,” said Representative Friess. “I’m grateful to Senator Bryant, the Chester Area Christian Food Pantry, the St. Louis Food Pantry, and the more than 30 dedicated volunteers who made this event possible. This is the heart of Randolph County—neighbors helping neighbors.”

On Wednesday, December 11, Senator Bryant, her staff, Representative Friess’ staff, and volunteers from the Chester Area Christian Food Pantry handed out donated turkeys to more than 130 Randolph County residents at the food pantry’s mobile market.

“This mobile market was a record-setting event for Chester Area Christian Food Pantry’s Christmas season Mobile Market,” said Chester Area Christian Food Pantry Director Bob Koenegstein. “One hundred thirty-eight families were served by approximately 35 volunteers, including two high school student organizations. It was great to have State Senator Terri Bryant and staff, as well as State Representative David Friess’ staff on hand to serve 150 turkeys in a festive and joy-filled atmosphere!”

All the turkeys were provided for free by Meridian Health. Meridian Health Plan of Illinois, Inc. and its family of health plans provide government-sponsored managed care services to families, children, seniors, and individuals with complex medical needs.
