Springfield, IL… With the release of U.S. Census data on August 12th, State Representative David Friess (R-Red Bud) offered the following statement in regards to the legislative maps signed into law by Governor Pritzker:
“The census data substantiates what the Republican Caucus has been saying for months. The backroom, partisan drawn maps that Governor Pritzker promised to veto, but didn’t, in our opinion violate the U.S. Constitution, federal law, and provisions of the Illinois Constitution. Since no lawful redistricting plan was in place on June 30th, the process must now move to the Legislative Redistricting Commission where bipartisan maps can be drawn.”
